Cummins P4500

The Cummins P4500 is a popular model largely due to its strong output, lengthy endurance, and portability features. This is excellent for emergency and standby use at the home. With the wheel kit, this generator is very mobile and can provide reliable power in diverse settings. Overall, this is an excellent choice for those looking for a durable mid-size portable generator at an affordable price.

The P4500 is powered by a large 337 cc OHV engine. Its 11 hp can produce 4500 watts of peak power and 4000 watts of rated output. It operates at a 50 Hz frequency and a voltage of 230. The noise level is 76 dBA which is a little louder than many models; however, it should be easily tolerable in most environments. There is also a 12V 8.3 amp DC output for charging batteries. This is a convenient feature common to many smaller models; however, this is rarely found on larger size generators. Since the P4500 is more of a mid-sized model it is definitely an advantage that it still comes with it. Many comparable models do not offer this feature.

When oil levels get too low, the engine is at high risk for overheating. This is a very common cause of costly engine damage. This model ensures that this will not occur with its automatic shut down system that completely ceases operation if adequate oil is not present in the machine. In addition the P4500 has a dual element air cleaner, circuit breakers, and a integral battery tray. It has a manual start feature that is extremely easy to use. Many prefer the electric start option which is not available on this model, yet even the manual system is very simple and saves a lot of money. The fuel tank is quite large at 24.6 liters. The OHV is also very efficient allowing for lengthy runtimes. This model can operate continuously for 10 hours @ rated load. This is definitely a plus because although refueling is obviously not very difficult it does cause a delay. The engine must cool before more fuel is added and depending on conditions then can be a setback. But, at 10 hours this can definitely get a full day’s job done!

The P4500 is backed with a 2 year limited warranty standard to most models made by Cummins. This definitely offers a comforting peace of mind; however, these generators are very reliable and are built to last.
