Winter storms brought heavy rain, sleet, and snow to various regions of the northern US. Wind blowing up to 40-50 mph knocked down many power lines and poles. Power outages occurred in multiple areas including Ohio and Pennsylvania where nearly 20 thousand were left without power. 26 thousand people were without power in Connecticut. Businesses were forced to close early and workers were sent home.

Traffic was inhibited severely. Many car accidents occurred unfortunately resulting in several deaths. Police required a reduction in speed limits and bans were issued on parking to allow for snow to be removed. Snowplows blanketed the streets in effort to alleviate travel. Roads were blocked by fallen trees and closed in areas from Washington all the way to North Carolina.

The Midwest was blasted with more snow fall. Sporting teams such as the Milwaukee Bucks were unable to travel due to flight cancellations. Chicago’s O’Hare was forced to delay countless flights and cancelled some as well. Planes also had difficultly landing and taking off in Des Moines, Iowa and Madison, Wisconsin.

In addition, these storms resulted in mudslides which prevented trains in Vancouver and Oregon from operating. Bottom line, storms this winter have caused severe chaos across the country. Do not fall subject to this wrath by fully preparing yourself. Seek proper chains and tires to travel in treacherous conditions. Make sure you have a generator for a back up power supply. Purchase enough food and supplies in case transportation is impossible. Act with caution and enjoy the winter.

The R45/E from Baldor is a powerhouse with all the amenities. It can be used for commercial applications, power at the home, and to power construction equipment. It has a strong output that can support a variety of demanding devices. It is very simple and easy to use. There is no need to change voltage. It does not require a switch for full power. For the R45E model, it comes with electric start to ensure that it gets up and running quickly with little effort every time. The R45/E is also backed by a 3 year warranty for that extra peace of mind. This is definitely a great choice.

The R45 is powered by a Robin/ Subaru 231 cc 8 hp engine. It is capable of producing a peak AC output of 4500 watts and a rated output of 4000 watts. This can power saws, fans, lights, drills, refrigerators, etc. It supports both 120V and 240V. This increases its uses drastically and can come in handy especially on the job site.

The R45 has an AC voltmeter and hour meter for easy system monitoring. Many models do not offer these features. Therefore, the R45 has a large advantage when it comes to convenience. There is a focal vibration system to reduce vibration and extend the generators life. The automatic idle feature conserves fuel when possible, which promotes a longer runtime. Refueling can often cause unfortunate delays. Yet, this model can get a full days work done with a runtime of up to 9 hours depending on load size. Its mid-size 4.4 gallon tank makes its lengthy runtime possible. There are several safety mechanisms installed on the R45. There is a function to automatically shut down the system in case the oil reaches levels that are too low for safe operation. This prevents overheating. Other safety features include circuit breakers to protect against overload and a spark arrestor to eliminate any chance of fire. The muffler also adds protection and reduces noise levels. Nonetheless, this model is still fairly loud at 70.9 dBA. Yet, this is a commercial/ industrial generator with a larger engine. To prevent any chance of disturbances, it is recommended that consumers keep this machine isolated from nearby people. However, regardless it should be easily tolerable.

The HomeSite Power 3500 is a 60 Hz gasoline generator designed to be strong, portable, and affordable. This model is not very large, 101 pounds. There is an optional wheel kit for increased mobility. The Power 3500 is similar to the Power 2400; however, it offers that extra power for more demanding applications. It can be used at home, on the job site, and for some small commercial uses.

It is powered by an OHV 6.5 hp engine which can produce 2800 watts of max AC power and 2500 watts of rated power. This is definitely strong enough for power a variety of small to mid size devices. It operates at 60 Hz and supports both 120V and 240V. In addition, there is also a DC output for charging 12V batteries.

The Power 3500 features three two prong receptacles and circuit breaker protection. It can run for up to 8 hours continuously @ rated load on its 4 gallon fuel tank. This is slightly shorter than the Power 2400 but this is primarily due to the Power 3500 offering more power. Refueling is not that difficult; however, it usually requires a short delay for the engine to cool before adding more fuel.

Similar to the Power 2400, the Power 3500 also produces a 68 dBA noise level. This is not very loud and should not cause any disturbances. However, it is usually advisable to isolate it from surrounding neighbors.
